Annual Chief Executive Report

SIGLA provides the most recent constitutionally mandated general report on national affairs given by the chief executive in the 20 Latin American countries that the SIGLA database will eventually include. With these data, researchers can comparatively explore an important function of chief executives in Latin America and a critical aspect of the relationship between executives and legislatures.

Clicking on the plus sign next to each country’s name allows users to view a description of the Constitutional Reporting Process by which the chief executive conveys information to congress and any requirements established by the constitution. Clicking on the plus sign also reveals Original Text Underlying the Constitutional Reporting Process, comprising quotations from the country’s constitution regarding the annual chief executive report, and the Source from which Original Text was drawn. Because SIGLA focuses on formal institutions and reports on what the constitution says about the annual chief executive report, actual practice may diverge from the processes noted here.
